Step 1. Understand the Six Primary Components

Lessons begin with letter sounds, progress to word formation and spelling, enhance fluency through word lists, aid in comprehending affixes with the word matrix, and culminate in applying all these skills through decodable texts.

Step 2. Determine a Starting Point

Instruct the student to start reading from the words, moving down each column. Your starting point is identified by the moment the student’s reading pace begins to decrease.
